WHAT IS VERIFIED?

The original commands.

On its original console, each song replays the original chip commands, verified against an independent emulator. NES timing is checked in CPU cycles; Mega Drive timing follows the VGM capture. Other consoles and edited versions are adaptations.

Introduction and one complete loop. Nintendo EAD / Koji Kondo, 1985. Legacy 16666 µs header interpreted as NTSC video timing, matching Game_Music_Emu.

No voice omissions.

No extra bass, chords or drums are invented. Only parts present in the source are played.

Instrument choices & limitations

Adaptations balance parts using measured instrument responses. Original commands keep their native mix. Hardware limits and uncalibrated sounds are listed below.

  • Native commands reproduce the source driver. Portable expression is observed at 240 Hz, not cycle-exact.
  • Target timbres are adaptations; only the unmodified native command stream retains the game settings.

Recordings compare at matched levels. MIDI imports and edits render locally in a worker. Audio comparisons are listening evidence, not a universal fidelity score.
